Band-Aid Post Poned

Posted by KL | Filed under: News

Hola,

I will soon be contacting various artists individually to inform them that Aid for Asia will be pushed to April.

Due to the number of tsunami related fund-raising activities going on at the moment, we figured it would be advantagteous to stage our event in April - when there will still be a pressing need for funds but less publicity surrounding it.

We still intend to distribute funds to Red Cross, Oxfam and Sewalanka. It looks likely that the Hyde Park Hotel will be the venue.

Thanks to Ando, KL, Nuno Van Damdam, Voyager, Micadelic, Cass, Badger and all others for their pledges of assistance. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. I will be in touch shortly regarding the renewed schedule.

Hmmm… when did postponed become two words?

I must be losing my mind.

  2. Barney says:

Seems to me publicity would be a good thing when trying to attract an audience…

Still, there will no doubt be plenty in attendance and all will be able to say they didn't go "for the publicity".

    :weirdo:

At the moment, there's a lot of press about it but also lots of events. When people stop hearing about it (and stop giving) but the money is still needed, we will pop up and generate a new lot of publicity - albeit it smaller - and try to keep the reconstruction effort alive as a 'story'. Know what I mean?

Or alternatively there could be another humanitarian crisis between now and April that your event could be in aid of…something new and fresh

  5. Barney says:

I presume, Lu, that you are making a comment on the fact that charity and goodwill are often only as forthcoming as the recognition or acknowledgement behind them.

I really hope that sarcasm was employed as a comment on the broader reality than on the conversation being had here. The Letters to the Editor all over Australia have done the short-sighted 'if you weren't giving before to all the worthy causes that existed, your contribution now is less noble or valued' bit to death.

We all know that new, fresh and alive are what drive people to purchase, attend and - in many cases - donate… The objective is obviously to get the donations and use them to maximum effect, and if that means capitalising on the 'popularity' of the crisis then so be it.

Your point is taken Geeves, with regard to there being alot of competition right now for the charitable donation. I'm sure April will work very well.

It was my dark sense of humour at work…referring to the inevitable fact that there will be other crises that will arise between now and then - not so much a criticism of humanity's lack of altruism. Just my bleak forecast.

  7. Lu says:

I think pushing the concert back is a smart move…

  8. Gawain says:

I guess if you push it back you can't call it 'Bandwagon' anymore (not that you were going to. This makes me sad.

  9. Lu says:

You are a funny, funny boy Mr Davies. Your comments make me smile.
