Arts and Crafts Ahoy

Socialist Stencils

Thanks to Melbourne's unseasonable patch of warm weather, I was able to finish my first two stencils today. Obviously they are a matching pair, one is for my flatmate, Socialist Lousia, and the other is for a good friend, Anita.

The other week Fancy also made a coffee table, so, you know… that's what we did on our summer holidays.

That's some quality work there fellas, especially the use of Dulux's "Communist Red" shades…

Kudos to Fancy's handiwork…I always said you could use a man round the house Kilbottery…and on that tip, when u boyz are back in Perth I've got a spot of brickpaving that needs doing out in the yard - I don't pay money, but I can keep ya full of West Aussie HomeGrown and let ya work in a Benny BenASSi "Satisfaction"-esque work environment…

(PS How did you manage Summer "Holidays" before, y'know, "Summer" or "Holidays"…I'm impressed!)

(PSS I highly recommend Dave Chappelle's "Killin Em Softly" stand-up routine on DVD)

Now I'm not usually one to blow my man's trumpet in public, but I'm glad to note that Fancy aint no arty socialist wanker like Killer.

Just a pile of wholesome, manly sweat, wood, beard and tools.

Although both those socialist ladies are exceedingly hot, Killer.

  3. killer says:

he he miss curtis.t. ya pretty much hit the nail on the head thar. fancy's trumpet is well taken care of and he will bang up a coffee table for the pure pleasure of using 'is hands. i on the other hand view Labor as a means to an end, very much like a young andy warhol.

  4. killer says:

also, a huge, slightly drunken, hear, hear's to $BDW$ comments. the Dulux was almost right… the colour is "Flag Red", not "Communist Red", but we know what they mean.

and you're also right on the perpetual summer holiday, as i said to a flatmate the other day… "I haven't had a day off since 1997-2001"

and finally also, me and fancy bought a screen for screen-printing t-shirts today, so stay tuned for more arts and crafts!

  5. hamish says:

you bought a screen!!! where from? how much?>???

Do you wanna start an art-supply co-op? IE go halves in a decent supply of ink?

  6. killer says:

I'm glad you asked Hamish, it's quite a good story and deserves retelling…

So Fancy comes over to discuss the making of a screen, it's late in the afternoon about 5:30pm, too late for any constructive trip to a hardware store. We grab a long neck from the Terminis and start walking and talking in the afternoon heat. We head up High Street towards Northcote with a vague plan that there may be a building site or demolition site up there which would provide us with some materials to make the screen. So we walk and talk, and walk straight past a second hand store jam-packed with all manner of bullshit. We walk straight past and Fancy says something like, "There's some crazy shit in that store." We pause. At this stage I'm not thinking screen printing, I'm thinking jeans and big sunglasses, which I also need. We head back for a quick look, and sitting in front of the store, near a crate of records, is the screen. I pick it up and Fancy starts swearing, "Fuck, fuck! No fucking way." The lady rushes out to ask what's wrong, "It's alright they were happy swears," and I thrust $2 into her palm for a perfect, angels-must-have-sent-me-here, A3 sized screen.

We will have a t-shirt making day on Sunday, my place from 12 noon, bring some paint and a few shirts. And beer.

    Yay!

..and now that i'm FINALLY finishing my degree (better late than never), my own perpetual summer of arts and crafts begins on Saturday.

Sucked in to anyone who has to work for the next three months. Whoops sorry Dave, I forgot about the thesis.

  8. hamish says:

thats outLANDISH! Anyway, Sunday sounds good!

  9. KL says:

Can you make me a special "Melbourne welcomes DJ KL" type T-shirt?

  10. KL says:

Oh yeah, "happy swears" is gold. Good name for song/album/band.

Damn I'm hungry. This is what I get for being the usual breakfast maker 'round these parts. Whisson (also known as Al, Malser, Martin, Stinger or Whizza) sitting in the back room readin' the Oz, drinking instant coffee saying "Yeah yeah yeah" sounding like Al Franken. I gave that Commie his wake up call at 11:32am and the ingrate won't fry me an egg with some beans. Damn, how many times have cooked for that mother? I even helped him make sauce last night when he got back from Woolies.

Neil (or Bini) is up, and shirtless (here in sunny Perth) and damn it's a sight to behold.

Joey's gone to school, where she is learning English. She's from Reunion Island.

The kitchen's a mess. I've got to take some cred for that since I ate five meals yesterday.

The cricket is on free to air (otherwise there would have been blood in the streets) and the Kiwis are 3/117. Now it's time for me to lay down some rough justice on Whisson, and get breakfast made.

Just remember what Jimmy Duranty said - "You can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs".

  12. Giovanni says:

    UPDATE

I ended up making breakfast. A pot of baked beans with two eggs frying in it and a stick of garlic bread. That Whisson is hard as steel. He'd rather go delirious with hunger than make breakfast, but one day I'll outlast him.

Alex had already had his coffee so we had a glass of juice each. We had the bulk of the egg and garlic bread, but gave Neil a fair share of the beans, which he had along with a bowl of cereal with kiwi fruit and a cup of tea.

Not long after breakfast, we stopped watching the cricket and opted for watching The Office - the episode with the "flashdance fused with some MC Hammer shit". Man that's some dynamite.

I started to get a splitting headache from not having had caffeine, so Whisson made me a cup of English breakfast tea while I lay on the couch. Son of a bitch probably spat in it, but it was still some kind of victory.

Then the two of us cleaned the kitchen while Bini shopped.

I will keep you posted on what happens over breakfast tomorrow.

  13. killer says:

post it in the news Geeves. then we can all comment on our breakfast adventures.

as a final word on screen-printing t-shirts (for those on the east coast).. i will pick up some paints on friday, i already have the screen, squeegee and cutting equipment… so you just need to bring a shirt. we will be doing simple stencils first off, and move up to emulsions later. email me any pictures you want shirtified.

once we have perfected our art we will take orders from the west coast. i got a feeling careful scientist t-shirts are going to be big this summer.

  14. Barney says:

    I want a careful scientist t-shirt!!

*Quiet you people over there in the west!*

    ohh…sorry…
