End The Lies, October 3rd

Posted by Bigg Daddy Wallbuxx | Filed under: News

End The LiesI know you must be getting sick of the political postings on kilbot.net lately… there is only 9 days to go, then we can get back to music and dockers discussions (draft picks, pre-season, yay!).

This Sunday is the End The Lies protest against the Howard Government.

  • Melbourne 1.30pm State Library, City
  • Perth 1pm Perth Cultural Centre Amphitheatre (opp. Alexander Library, James St)

Things are starting to trickle in Labor's direction; the media has been favourable, centrebet has shortened the odds… but now we need to open the flood-gates of popular opinion. Hundreds of millions of thousands of voters packing the streets to protest against Howard could only help the cause and embiggen Latham's heart for the last week of the campaign.

Speaking of opening the flood-gates of popular opinion… where the hell is Peter Garrett? Isn't he meant to be out there getting the bogan/oils vote.

    The Review

I forgot to take my camera, so there will be no photos in this review… that is probably a good thing seeing as though the rally did not open the flood-gates of anti-Howard sentiment as I had envisioned. It certainly was not the tidal wave needed to sweep the Liberals from government.

This is not to say there was anything wrong with the rally, it was just like any other; the usual groups of people assembled at the State Library, a selection of spokespeople did their speaking, the crowd slowly shuffled a loop through the city and back to the Library… and that was it. The only event of interest was the speech by Richard Frankland who stole the show - and I dare say a few votes - from the Greens candidate David Risstrom.

Where were the people that came out last year to protest against the war? Where were the people that have come out for the many refugee actions over the last couple of years? Where were the people that packed the streets for reconciliation in 2000 and gave us those great scenes of Sydney Habour Bridge which lead every news broadcast that night?

Am I totally misguided in thinking that a mass rally one week before a federal election could achieve more than all these rallies put together?… maybe it shows how far my finger is off the pulse, but I really expected something a little more impassioned than the limp response on Sunday. 'End The Lies' was easily written off as another pointless protest from the permantly disaffected 'feral left' and barely rated a mention on the news.

And where was Labor? Perhaps it was the fear of being associated with the 'feral left' that kept them from getting involved, but surely they would have more to gain by joining and popularising such an event… grab a flatbed truck, tell Peter to reform the Oils and lead a big, fuck-off march across the Sydney Harbour Bridge… election won.

Labor seems to be following the Politics of Boredom perfected by the Little Man, forgetting that a catchy jingle about change can work a treat in an election decided by swinging retards.

Umm… I guess that's the end. The end of my review that is, not the end of the lies and sadly not the end of Howard. Sorry for all the question marks.

Don't despair just yet, L'il Kil. You just never know. That's what's exciting.

It's a bit like trade week.

  4. Barney says:

The Liberals have now taken to phoning voters at home with a pre-recorded message from Little Johnny H in what is surely the most abhorrent sign yet of an Australian government with it's head stuck firmly up the ass of the United States Republican heirarchy and willing to go to any lengths - even bald-faced phone spamming - to gain the vote of the very same people they are trying at every turn to fuck.

I am still hoping for a Labor win. It is not over yet, but we are going to need every bit of luck we can get, right now I'm praying against those Family First fuckers, just to confuse God a little.

Here are my tips for the unsafe seats:

    In WA:

Swan - Kim Wilkie for Labor in a fucking walk because Andrew 'Merkin' Murfin has run the worst ("tough on drugs") campaign ever run.

Hasluck - Sharryn 'Jacko' Jackson despite the best efforts of the goddamned Australian Nurses Federation. Why am I cursing the ANF? Well, Mark Olsen et al will be protesting against Labor at marginal seats because they are cranky at Geoff Gallop. You heard me, the nurses union will be spruiking for Howard. Jacko and Jann Macfarlane (member for stirling) have consistently supported the ANF picket lines etc, and now…

Kal - retained by the Libs only because of the death of Kev Richards.

Stirling - Will fall to the Libs, maybe by a few hundred votes. Macfarlane has run a good grass-roots campaign so it'll be very close. A real heart breaker for me because I spruiked in Stirling in '98 and 2001.

Moore - The shock seat. Held by Mal Washer by about 5% but will fall to the ALP's Kim Young. Why? Doctor Mal has run a shit campaign, and has pretty much vanished. Family First and the Greens are directing all 2s to Kim Young, who is on top of the ballot in a seat with a high donkey vote. One Nation polled well last time and some of those votes will go FF, donkey and even greens - then to Labor. Made all the more suprising by the fact that -

Canning - held by a rotten, racist bastard by 0.4%, will stay with the Libs. Due to the shambolic demise of former ALP candidate Cimlie Bowden. I don't know much about what happend with Cimlie, but she's been replaced by Kay someone or other. Cimlie was a damn good industrial advocate for the CPSU/CSA and from all accounts a pretty good nurse in her career prior to working for the labour movement. I thik she would have won Canning and been pretty good in parliament. It's a shame.

Curtin - where I'll be on the hustings this time. The Liberals will win it easily, but I thought I'd point out this seat because it will have a big Greens vote, maybe 10-15%. Keep an eye on it and think of me.

    Elsewhere…

Cunningham (NSW) to go from Greens to Labor.

Wentworth (NSW) will go Labor or Independent (Peter King). Expect Green preferences to be decisive. If the ALP candidate gets over King, they'll go all the way. Turnbull is finished.

Bass - (tassie) will fall to the Libs on the timber vote.

Parramata - (NSW) will fall to Labor. Ross Cameron is scum.

Moreton (Qld) - will fall to Labor.

That's about it. The Coalition will have its parliamentary majority reduced but not by enough. Howard will be returned to his golden throne, ruling fro on high with Costello by his side. Peter Reith is hybernating in his cocoon. We will all end up human slaves in an insect nation.
